UK Import Rules After Brexit
The UK no longer follows EU import thresholds. VAT applies to all imports, and duty kicks in over 135 GBP.
| Value (GBP) | VAT | Duty | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 135 | 20% | None | VAT collected at sale or delivery |
| 135-630 | 20% | Variable | Duty depends on product type |
| Over 630 | 20% | Yes | Full duty + VAT |
Parcelforce & Royal Mail
Parcelforce handles EMS and larger EUB deliveries. Royal Mail delivers smaller EUB parcels. Both offer redelivery and depot pickup.
- EMS: 10-18 days, reliable to all UK regions including Highlands
- EUB: 12-20 days, Parcelforce or Royal Mail final delivery
- DHL: 5-8 days, fast but strict on declarations and replica items
- Hermes/Evri: Budget option via some agents, slower but cheap
Northern Ireland Protocol
Under the Windsor Framework, some goods to Northern Ireland move through Irish customs with simplified procedures. Ask your agent if NI-specific routing is available — it can bypass UK customs entirely for eligible items.
Declaring Value Accurately
UK customs are stricter post-Brexit. HMRC can seize under-declared packages and issue fines. Declare within 10-15% of true value. If VAT was not collected at checkout, expect a payment request before delivery.
